The Position

As a Lead Engineer - SAP Basis DevOps, you will lead the engineering, automation, reliability, and continuous improvement of SAP platforms across on-premises and Azure cloud environments. You will combine deep SAP Basis expertise with DevOps, platform engineering, and AI-enabled operations to deliver highly available, secure, and automated SAP services.

You will lead a team of engineers, drive platform strategy, enable cloud transformation, and champion modern engineering practices that improve productivity, reliability, and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

SAP Platform Engineering

• Lead SAP Basis operations for SAP ECC, S/4HANA, BW, PI/PO, Solution Manager, SAP BTP, and HANA environments.
• Manage installations, upgrades, migrations, refreshes, patching, performance optimisation, and lifecycle management.
• Ensure platform availability, scalability, security, and operational excellence across SAP landscapes.

DevOps, Automation & Cloud

• Drive DevOps adoption using Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and automation frameworks.
• Automate provisioning, monitoring, patching, compliance, and release management activities.
• Lead SAP cloud transformation initiatives on Microsoft Azure.
• Establish platform standards, reusable automation, and engineering best practices.

AI-Enabled Operations

• Drive adoption of AI, Generative AI, and AIOps capabilities across SAP platform operations.
• Leverage GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Azure OpenAI, and enterprise AI tools to improve engineering productivity and operational effectiveness.
• Implement AI-assisted monitoring, root cause analysis, anomaly detection, capacity planning, and predictive maintenance.
• Integrate AI capabilities into DevOps workflows to improve release quality, automation, and operational insights.
• Ensure responsible, secure, and compliant use of AI technologies in platform operations.

Reliability, Security & Governance

• Establish monitoring, observability, incident management, and disaster recovery capabilities.
• Lead root cause analysis, problem management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with security, audit, risk, and governance requirements.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Lead and mentor a team of SAP Basis DevOps engineers.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and engineering governance.
• Collaborate with SAP, Infrastructure, Security, Cloud, Data, and Product teams to deliver platform capabilities.
• Influence engineering decisions and support enterprise transformation initiatives.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Strong experience in SAP Basis administration and SAP platform engineering.
• Proven expertise in Azure DevOps, automation, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Deep understanding of SAP HANA, platform reliability, security, and high-availability architectures.
• Experience leading SAP cloud transformation and modernisation initiatives.
• Hands-on experience applying AI and Generative AI technologies to engineering, operations, automation, or DevOps processes.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• Outcome-oriented mindset focused on reliability, automation, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field.
• 12-15+ years of experience in SAP Basis, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Operations, or DevOps, including leadership of large-scale SAP transformation initiatives.
• Strong expertise in SAP ECC, S/4HANA, BW, PI/PO, SAP BTP, Solution Manager, and SAP HANA/Oracle administration, including upgrades, migrations, performance tuning, and lifecycle management.
• Proven experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible), and automation using PowerShell, Python, or Shell scripting.
• Hands-on experience managing SAP workloads on Microsoft Azure, with knowledge of HA/DR, security, and platform reliability.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Grafana, Splunk, or equivalent.
• Experience leveraging AI and AIOps capabilities, including GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, and Azure OpenAI, to enhance automation, operations, and engineering productivity.

Strong leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
