Job Title - Data Center Engineer – Low Latency Trading Infrastructure (Mumbai)
Location - Mumbai, India (On-site)
About the Role
A leading low-latency trading firm is expanding its Mumbai data center operations team. They’re looking for a hands-on Data Center Engineer who understands the physical and network layers of ultra-low-latency infrastructure and can keep mission-critical trading systems running at peak performance.
This is not a standard DC ops role – you’ll be working in a performance-driven environment where milliseconds matter and operational excellence directly impacts trading outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, rack, cable, and configure servers, network devices, and storage in a low-latency data center environment
- Plan and optimise rack layouts, power distribution, cabling pathways, and patching schedules to support latency-sensitive workloads
- Perform hardware diagnostics, break/fix, and RMA coordination with vendors to minimise downtime
- Support deployment and maintenance of low-latency networking gear (switches, NICs, optics, transceivers, fiber infrastructure)
- Work closely with network, systems, and trading infrastructure engineers on deployments, upgrades, and capacity planning
- Maintain accurate documentation: rack elevations, asset inventory, cabling maps, change logs, and operational procedures
- Monitor environmental conditions, power usage, and cooling; proactively identify and mitigate risks
- Coordinate with colocation providers, smart-hands, and third-party vendors for onsite works and projects
- Follow strict change management, security, and compliance processes in a regulated trading environment
Must-Have Experience
- 4+ years of hands-on data center engineering experience, ideally in a trading, fintech, or HPC environment
- Strong practical knowledge of server hardware, network devices, and storage systems in production DCs
- Experience with fiber optics, copper cabling, transceivers, and basic optical testing
- Familiarity with Linux-based systems and basic CLI troubleshooting
- Understanding of low-latency requirements and how physical design impacts performance (cable routing, port selection, NIC placement, etc.)
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively, and respond quickly to incidents
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to documentation and process
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings/weekends for changes or incidents
Nice-to-Have
- Exposure to kernel-bypass networking (Onload, DPDK) or PTP/time-sync infrastructure
- CCNA/CCNP or equivalent networking certification
- Basic scripting skills (Bash/Python) for automation and reporting
- Experience in colocation project rollouts or DC expansions
What’s on Offer
- Competitive salary and performance-related bonus
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge, low-latency trading infrastructure
- Exposure to global teams and complex, high-scale environments
- Strong career progression into senior DC, network, or trading infrastructure roles
