Quality Technician - Level III - SHOP

Job Summary:

Supports Engineers in carrying out production-related and inspection jobs; assists in monitor materials quality in processing plants and making the required adjustments; ensures maintenance of documentation and records. Works under minimal supervision.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Compares the physical characteristics of components, materials, equipment and products to technical specifications to identify defects. Conducts simple tests (for example on electrical function, reliability, packaging quality). Records results and prepare simple technical reports. Provides product and component testing using a range of measurement equipment. Provides advanced programming, training, and operation of measurement and test equipment. Assists customers in understanding/interpreting product specifications and application of measurement data. Participates in measurement uncertainty studies for measurements associated with measurement or calibration results. Ensures proper maintenance and calibration of the measurement and test equipment.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

Qualifications

Role Purpose

Responsible for managing VPC/VPCR and VPI quality activities from source release and Alpha/Beta builds through validation, fitment trials, PPAP submission and customer approval. The role requires close coordination with customer quality, plant quality, engineering, manufacturing and customer engineering & quality team to ensure product quality, successful validation and timely project milestones.

Key Responsibilities

A. VPC / VPCR Quality Activities

• Attend and actively participate in VPCR meetings and project quality reviews.
• Coordinate with key stakeholders including Customer Quality and Plant Quality to collect and consolidate project inputs.
• Coordinate with customers for Gate Pack requirements and closure of quality deliverables.
• Coordinate with Engineering for field trials, validation activities and resolution of quality-related issues.
• Coordinate source release activities and ensure timely submission of required quality documents for Alpha and Beta builds.
• Coordinate with Customer Quality for fitment trials and collect feedback/inputs at engine level.
• Participate in project discussions related to testing and support PTR (Production Trial Run) activities at plant/production line.
• Participate in PFMEA risk reviews for engineering/product/process changes.
• Support Plant Quality in developing and updating Control Plans (CP), associated check sheets and other quality documentation.
• Coordinate PPAP documentation, submission and follow-up with internal stakeholders and customers.
• Work closely with customers to obtain PPAP approval and ensure timely closure of open points.

B. VPI Quality Activities

• Execute VPI quality activities related to source release coordination and quality document submission for Alpha/Beta builds.
• Plan and execute/support PTR activities at plant or production line.
• Participate in PFMEA risk reviews for product/process changes and support Plant Quality in updating Control Plans and associated check sheets.
• Coordinate with Customer Quality for fitment trials and obtain inputs/feedback at engine level.
• Coordinate preparation and submission of PPAP documentation.
• Follow up with customers for PPAP approval and closure of quality observations.

C. Other Quality Responsibilities

• Participate in joint investigations of failed hardware and support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Monitor AIS data and prepare monthly submissions to CGS for analysis.
• Active member in L4 PQC forum: Sharing Agenda, attendance tracking, MoM tracking & closure of points weekly
• Support line trials and quality activities for PQC projects.
• Support cross-functional teams in resolving field, plant and customer quality issues.
• Ensure timely tracking and closure of quality actions arising from project reviews, trials, validations and customer feedback.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan and quality planning.

• Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.

Educational Qualification

• Diploma in Mechanical, Automobile, Electrical, Electronics or related Engineering discipline.
• Additional qualifications/certifications in Quality, APQP, PPAP, Six Sigma or related areas will be an advantage.

Experience

• Experience in Automotive Quality / Customer Quality / New Product Development Quality / Project Quality.
• Experience with customer-facing quality activities, PPAP and source release is preferred.
• Exposure to engine-level validation, fitment trials, PTR and field/warranty analysis will be an advantage.
