In this role, you will collaborate across the business, working closely with Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Applications Engineering to develop and support a broad portfolio of Residual Gas Analysis (RGA) products.

The position spans the full product lifecycle, from concept development and prototype design through to verification, validation, and successful transfer into production. Responsibilities include developing innovative mechanical and vacuum-based solutions, defining and executing performance testing, building and evaluating minimum viable products (MVPs), and leading products through the Product Development Process (PDP).

[This is a site-based position within a dynamic and growing division.]

Key Responsibilities

You will make an impact by:

  • Working closely with Product Management and Applications Engineering to understand customer and application requirements, translating these into innovative engineering solutions.
  • Leading and contributing to the ideation, design, development, and prototype evaluation of new products, with a particular focus on Residual Gas Analyses (RGA) and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) technologies.
  • Mentoring engineers and technicians in UHV principles, contamination control, design methodologies, and systematic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Developing and executing performance, reliability, and qualification test plans.
  • Designing and supporting the development of test fixtures, equipment, and methodologies used for product verification and validation.
  • Producing product specifications, engineering calculations, analyses, 3D CAD models, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Collaborating with Manufacturing and Operations teams throughout product development, launch, and production scale-up to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
  • Driving design verification and validation activities to ensure products meet quality, performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across existing products and manufacturing processes.
  • Travelling occasionally (up to 10%) to support customers, suppliers, development activities, or other business requirements.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 4 years of relevant industrial experience in product development and engineering design.
  • Strong experience using 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
  • Experience conducting engineering calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Demonstrable expertise in vacuum technology and vacuum system design.
  • Experience with manufacturing and fabrication processes, including machining, welding, brazing, and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Proven experience supporting products from concept development through to production release.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Desirable

  • Experience of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and associated technologies.
  • Experience designing vacuum-based analytical instrumentation or mass spectrometry products.
  • Strong understanding of high-vacuum and ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) systems.
  • Practical experience with vacuum instrumentation, including Residual Gas Analysers (RGAs), helium leak detectors, vacuum gauges, and related diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience developing or specifying vacuum valves and gas handling systems.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Ability to work at a desk, computer workstation, laboratory bench, or manufacturing area for extended periods as required.
  • Good manual dexterity and coordination for assembly, testing, and laboratory-based activities.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 10 kg.
  • Work within a professional office, laboratory, and manufacturing environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment, including the safe handling of vacuum systems, mechanical equipment, and laboratory instrumentation.
