Job Description – Manager- Treasury Controls and Reporting        

Overview

Manager, Treasury Controls and Reporting will manage the treasury accounting functions for North American Treasury, with emphasis on ensuring the integrity of the cash accounting and its impact to financial reporting.

Role Summary:

The role will be responsible for working on a broad array of constantly evolving domestic and corporate treasury initiatives and include interaction with all the operations of Sun Life Financial.

This position will provide a unique opportunity to be involved in the development of a world-class treasury operation with a goal to improve treasury management and decision making within a consistent risk / return framework or the organization.

This position will work with a team of treasury professionals responsible for the internal controls and reporting of our Treasury activity. The role is responsible for accounting, controls, governance and education within treasury operations ensuring compliance to defined standards, policies and guidelines.

Main Accountabilities:

• Responsible for ensuring that Treasury accounting accurately reflects the cash position of the company and that effective controls are in place
• Act as the treasury controls and reporting subject matter expert for initiatives across the company ensuring that the cash accounting needs are met and treasury cash controls are implemented
• Manage direct reports and provide support to treasury staff in all matters related to treasury cash controls and reporting
• Responsible for reviewing and approving manual journal entries prepared by Treasury Analysts including providing expertise for specialized accounting entries 
• Responsible for reviewing and approving monthly bank reconciliations for North American Treasury
• Manage the compliance program for Treasury Controls and Reporting in Canada and the US including the anti-fraud framework, anti-money laundering process, applicable SOX controls and all other Sunlife’s audit requests

Competencies:

• 5+ years treasury/finance related experience
• CA / M. Com / MBA finance, or managing required. Accounting designation preferred
• Superior leadership skills and a solid knowledge base of financial reporting and internal controls
• Ability to lead change management in banking processes and technology with measurable results.
• Strong communication and organizational skills

Assets:

• Strong familiarity with SAP general ledger
• Project management experience
• Strong leadership, organizational and decision-making skills
• Industry experience in a related field
• Familiarity with complex financial concepts
